How are rules determined?
CYA Softball participates in an Interleague that includes CYA, BRYC, SYC, NVGSA, VGSL, and FHYAA. Each season, board members from these organizations meet to finalize a shared set of rules. These rules are based on USA Softball guidelines, with additional modifications designed to support player development within a recreational league setting.

Are umpires used for games?
CYA has previously encouraged teen involvement by offering paid umpiring opportunities to softball players ages 16 and up for our 10U games. While it was a great way to keep older players connected to the program, it became too challenging to consistently find trained and available teens. Beginning in Fall 2025, all 10U and older games will be officiated by adult umpires. However, due to a continuing shortage, priority will be given to 12U and up. If no umpire is available for a 10U game, a parent volunteer will be needed to step in.
