Disney Showcase Tournament 2011

Congratulations to the CYA Phoneix for winning the Copa Red Division in the Disney Showcase Tournament over the New Year Holiday weekend.  The Disney Showcase is the ultimate place for Top Clubs to be seen by hundreds of college coaches looking for great soccer talent.  Rated # 1 youth soccer tournament in the United States in a Soccer America survey, Disney's Soccer Showcase Club gives athletes a chance to shine on one of the biggest stages set for youth soccer in this country.

To reach the Finals, CYA Phoenix had to beat the Mass Premier Soccer Renegades (MA), the WC St. Louis Academy (MO) and tie the Triangle FC '94 Navy (NC).  The Phoenix defeated the Albertson SC Fury in the Final Match 1-0 to take home the title!

Forty Years Of Service To The Chantilly Community!

CYA Soccer is celebrating our 40th Anniversary this year (1971 - 2011) and as we reflect on the past four decades, we come to appreciate all of the things that truly make CYA a unique and special.

As a volunteer run organization, it is often difficult to carve out enough time to organize a clear definition of who we are and where we want to go as a youth program.  We are often so busy making sure teams are set, fields are lined, schedules are posted, referee’s are assigned, etc... that we don’t establish the necessary pathways to attain the overall objectives that we hope to achieve.

While we take time to celebrate our 40 years of providing a terrific program to the residents of the Chantilly area, we are focusing our efforts on re-defining who we are and what we stand for.  Of course, this is a lofty exercise yet as the youth sports community becomes more advanced, we at CYA  believe that we must establish a philosophical foundation that will define future generations of our players.

Please take a moment to view the documents on the left side of this page.  Together, we can work to provide a program for our kids that is based in education and affords them the opportunity to achieve the highest level of success that they desire.  Most of all, CYA Sports are FUN and we are committed to making sure that everyone who ever puts on a Purple Jersey will reflect fondly on the time they spent with CYA.

Here’s to another 40 years!

CYA Soccer Introduces Andy Vera as Technical Director!

CYA Soccer is excited to announce that Andy Vera, the longtime CYA Player Development Director, will expand his educational role with the Club becoming the first ever Technical Director.

As the Technical Director, Andy will be responsible for establishing and implementing all CYA Soccer coaching and player educational programs including recreational and travel soccer.  Andy will take the lead role in creating and implementing CYA Soccer’s developmental vision by continuously evaluating the effectiveness and currency of existing programs and suggesting potential changes.

Igor Campedelli (President/Owner A.C. Cesena) and Andy Vera

Andy has a long history with CYA Soccer dating back to the fall of 1997.  During that time, Andy’s company, Soccer Performance International, has grown from a group of 1 to over 10 trainers/teachers who work with Players and Coaches in both the rec and travel programs in CYA.  Andy (SPI) trained the first CYA Team to participate in the National Capital Soccer League (NCSL), the CYA Tigers.  The CYA Travel Program has expanded to over 30 teams since then and Andy’s association with the Italian Serie A club called AC Cesena has provided a new program that will afford CYA Soccer players the opportunity to compete with some of the most distinguished clubs in the world. CYA-Cesena currently has 180 players on 15 teams playing in all three of our local leagues.

Andy grew up in Buenos Aires and Washington DC.  Immediately after graduating from High School at St. John’s in Washington, he returned home to Argentina where he played for a number of 1st division teams. His playing career then took him to play in the Spanish 1st division for four years. He returned to Argentina in the early 90’s and received his professional coaching certification from the Argentine Football Association (AFA). Andy debuted as a professional coach for the under-19’s at San Lorenzo De Almagro in Buenos Aires. Throughout his teaching career Andy has obtained player development certifications from renown football organizations, written in-depth articles on youth development and holds an advanced certification from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Andy’s has had a vast playing and teaching career which has taken him to three continents before settling back in this area.  Andy and his wife Deanna have 3 wonderful daughters and reside in South Riding.

Over the coming weeks, Andy will be spending lots of time getting to know as many of the CYA Coaches as he can.  Please join CYA Soccer in welcoming Andy in his new capacity as CYA Technical Director.  We are all very excited in the direction that CYA Soccer is going and look forward to having Andy provide his guidance as we make this program more exciting than ever!

Full of Updates for Fall 2011!

CYA Soccer Fans!

Please take a minute to check out all of the updates we have made to the CYA Soccer Pages recently.  You should be able to find all of the information you need for the Upcoming Fall 2011 Season by clicking on one of the headings you see on the left side of the screen.

As a brief Overview, CYA Soccer has four major components - Travel Soccer, Senior Level (U11 - U19), Junior Level (U8 - U10) and Bantam (U5 - U7).  Each component has a "Director" as listed Below:

Travel - Mark Abbott (soccer@chantillyyouth.org)

Senior - Lisa Bishop (bishop.lisa@gmail.com)

Junior - Kimo Kaloi (kimo.kaloi@verizon.net)

Bantam - Stuart Flower (lightningcoach@cox.net)

If you have specific questions, please contact one of these directors via email.

Additionally, CYA Soccer has an FAQ page which you will find in the column on the left side of the screen.

Ultimately, we are trying to ensure that the website is kept up to date and full of information you need throughout the season.  As volunteers, we would prefer to minimize the direct email by having all of your questions answered on this website.  Please remember that when you contact a coordinator, there may a little time lapse in a response - especially during the summer months!

See you all in the Fall!

Hey Coach!
Can I give you a few pointers?.....

This little skit is so real to many of our youth coaches it's scary!  Please watch the entire clip and then make a committment to NOT be that parent this season!  All CYA Youth Soccer Coaches say THANK YOU!

CYA Soccer - AC Cesena!
Affiliation Established 2009

CYA Soccer has spent the past several years exploring ways to expand educational opportunities for our kids and has invited several European clubs/trainers to spend time here working with our kids.  As many of our members know, we have had some exceptional camps over the past few summers by trainers from Holland, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, England and Italy.

In all of these places and many other countries around the world, there is tremendous passion for soccer and our desire in CYA is to expose our players/coaches to that passion and inspire them to learn and grow.

Foremost among our endeavor to find a club to affiliate with is our shared committment to education.  As administrators, parents and coaches, we are constantly reminded that our primary function is to "teach" and we are extremely excited to work with AC Cesena as they are renowned for their committment to education and player development.

An important feature in developing players is developing coaches and this relationship will provide our coaches with the opportunity to travel to Italy and participate in training scenarios with the AC Cesena coaching staff.  CYA will also invite AC Cesena staff to join us here in Chantilly throughout the year to work with our coaches and players.  Additionally, CYA Players will have the opportunity to travel to Italy each summer and train with AC Cesena youth teams!

This affiliation would not have been possible if it weren’t for Soccer Performance International (SPI).  As you all know, SPI has been our exclusive training organization for nearly 12 years.  Andy Vera, who runs SPI, has traveled back and forth to Cesena twice over the past several months to meet with all of the directors at AC Cesena and discuss a long term scenario for CYA as the "host" club in the United States.  AC Cesena has invited SPI to work with them exclusively in the U.S. to establish additional ways to provide educational and cultural exchanges between clubs here and in Italy.  The possiblities are truly endless!  To learn more about AC Cesena, please use this link:  http://www.spisoccer.com/InternationalPrograms/index_E.html/

To obtain all of the information concerning the CYA - AC Cesena Affiliation, please click on the link located on the left side of the screen.  Over the coming months, we will be updating these pages to introduce our members to all of the opportunities that are available.

This is a very exciting time for CYA Soccer!

Field Monitors Needed
Community Service Hours Available for Middle and High Schoolers
Be a CYA Field Boss

CYA Soccer is looking for motivated and responsible teens who want to give back to the game they love and their community by caring for a local soccer field.  Responsibilities include painting lines, checking that flags and nets are in place and in good condition, making sure trash gets into bins, communicating with our Director of Field Maintenance, Michael Mirda to resolve issues and maintain supply levels, and generally looking after your local field.  You could even add a recycling bin (provided) if you are willing to empty it – an added bonus for a cleaner, greener Chantilly.

CYA Soccer is a user of many of the local rectangular fields and we would love to have your help maintaining them.  You track your hours on the sheet provided and we gratefully sign it at the end of the season or earlier if needed for school credit.  You will also receive a certificate of appreciation from CYA Soccer for your hard work and dedication.

Please contact Lisa Bishop at bishop.lisa@gmail.com if you are interested and to select a field.  By volunteering for 1.5 hours per week, you can make a difference!
CYA Inclement Weather Policy
Please Read

To All CYA Members and Participants:

It is very common for Thunderstorms to roll into the Chantilly area in the late afternoons.  It is therefore important that all CYA Sport Coordinators, Administrators, Coaches, and Parents are crystal clear on the CYA Inclement Weather Policy:

If you hear Thunder or see Lightning, clear the field immediately!!!

Parents, if you are on a field and you hear Thunder or see Lightning, please make your coach aware just in case he/she did not hear it.  Then, take your child off the field IMMEDIATELY.  Do not wait for the coach to call the practice or game.  Report any problems or concerns to the Sport Coordinator or to the CYA Board.

CYA is committed to providing our kids with a safe environment.  When a Thunderstorm is brewing and Lightning has been spotted, it is imperative that our coaches take it upon themselves to play it safe and clear the field right away.  That includes getting kids out of the parking lot and into cars.  Coaches who do otherwise will be dismissed from their positions.

There is no reasonable justification for jeopardizing the safety of our kids.  We realize weather related situations cause a great deal of inconvenience but this is a temporary scenario as opposed to the alternative.

Please be Safe!

The CYA Board of Directors
