Players participating in the house program for grades 2-12 have one one-hour weeknight practice per week and one weekend game. Practices and games are held at local area gyms. Generally the younger grades practice sometime between 5:00-7:30 and the older grades sometime between 7:30-9:30. With respect to games, games for grades 2-6 are usually on Saturdays between 9:00 and 7:00 PM. For grades 7-12, games can either be on Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 8:30 PM or on Sundays from 1:00 PM - 8:30 PM. In order to accomodate those religious groups who cannot play on Sundays, each league for grades 7-12 has some Saturday gym times and some Sunday gym times so that those players with religious conflicts can be placed on teams that play on Saturdays only.
The exact days, times, and locations are allocated to the various leagues once CYA receives its Winter gym allocation from the County in mid-November. Gym times for practices are divided up among the various leagues, and the league administrator works with his/her coaches to find times and locations when they are available. Game times and locations are assigned to individual leagues at the start of the season, with teams rotated through the allotted game slots over the course of the season.
Games and practices for grades 2-12 begin in December and continue until mid-March.
For first grade, there is one weekday or weekend instructional session per week. First graders only play one exhibition game, which is held in late February or March.
NOTE: Due to weather, holidays and school events, games and practices may have to be cancelled or rescheduled. This information is posted on the News page for CYA Basketball.
