CYA Basketball invites interested parties to apply for coaching positions in the Winter 2007-08 House recreational program. Coaches will be needed at all grade levels, from 1st through 12th grade.
By CYA rule, all coaches must be at least 16 years old. For those younger than 25, volunteers are only eligible to coach teams at grades in which the head and assistant coach is at least 3 years older than the oldest player on the team. In addition, coaches younger than 25 years of age must have an adult at least 25 years old on the sideline during games and present at all practices.
You can volunteer to coach as soon as Winter registration for basketball begins in mid-September. Selection of the coaches is at the discretion of the league administrators and Basketball board. Please note that all head and assistant coaches are subject to a criminal background check through the KidSafe program. Those who do not register in the CYA database or do meet the standards set by CYA will not be allowed to coach.
To serve as a CYA Basketball coach, you must register online in the CYA database so that you can be processed through CYA’s KidSafe program. If you signed up as a coach when you registered your child for Basketball, you need take no further action. If you did not sign up to coach when you registered your child or you do not have a child playing, then click on the Volunteer only link on the left side of the main CYA web page (

Volunteer to coach link on the left side of this page. Make sure that you click the drop list in order to view all the programs and sign up for the appropriate league. Note that during this process you will be required to furnish your Social Security number in order to be processed through KidSafe--this information is kept strictly confidential (only the CYA vice-president, who coordinates the KidSafe program, has access to this data).
