T-Ball is now called Youth Baseball. This more accurately reflects the direction the league has taken over the past few years. Half of the players no longer hit off of a tee. The have coach pitch to them.
Youth Baseball is divided into 2 Leagues. The Instructional League (T-Ball) is for all 5-year olds and 6-year olds who do not know the basics of baseball. Most 5-year olds generally play in the Instructional League in the Spring. Games consist of three action packed innings. Every player bats and plays the field during each inning. The Farm League (Coach Pitch) is for 5 and 6-year olds who have previously played T-Ball or have knowledge of the game of baseball. Teams generally consist of 11 players and the games are more like real baseball. Unlike the Instructional League, games in the Farm League are 4 innings long. The teams hit until they score 5 runs or the defensive team makes 3 outs. All players are guaranteed at least 2 at bats during the game but most will have 3 or 4 before the game is over. Coaches in the Farm League have noted the players were more focused for the entire game and the parents said it made the games more exciting. At the end of the games in both leagues comes the highlight for many of the players: snack time.
